Don Dobson, P.Eng, Founding Director

Don is a hydrologist who specializes in watershed management as it relates to natural resource industries such as forestry and mining. He has decades of experience in the public and private sectors related to environmental and economic sustainability issues.


Michelle Kam

Michelle is the Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Kelowna. She is working on the Community Climate Action Plan to reduce community greenhouse gas emissions by 33% by 2020. Prior to this role, Michelle was an Environmental Technician for the City of Kelowna for thirteen years and spearheaded the City’s Pesticide Bylaw and education campaign, and has significant experience in education, restoration and community events. Michelle has a degree in geography from UBC.


Dr. Gord Lovegrove

Gord has spent more than 20 years as a project manager in the sustainable development and transportation field. In 2006, he earned a PhD in sustainable road safety planning and engineering. He now draws on his professional experience and research to help teach the next generation of engineers at UBC Okanagan.


Charles Cullen

A journeyman carpenter and green builder with Team Construction, Charles has helped build some of the greenest homes in the Okanagan. Winner of the 2006 Kelowna Mayor’s Environmental Award for Jobsite Innovation, Team Construction was part of the pilot project for the Regional Waste Reduction Office to separate wood waste at the landfill. Charles is constantly looking for ways to reduce waste and decrease our carbon footprint on the planet.


Jonathan Lowe, EIT

Jonathan completed his degree in Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Auckland, specializing in water and wastewater treatment. Now living in Kelowna, Jonathan is a water engineer at Urban Systems working with municipalities and First Nations across BC. Passionate about environmental issues, Jonathan has worked on many local projects, promoting sustainability, as well as in Africa, helping to provide clean water to rural Ugandan communities.


Joanne de Vries, Founder & CEO

The foundation is the brainchild of Joanne de Vries, a communications consultant with 18 years experience in social marketing, risk communication, market research, and project design, development, delivery, and evaluation. She has worked closely with all levels of government throughout BC to help them educate and consult with their publics about sustainability issues such as strategic and community planning, water and wastewater management, solid waste management, transportation demand management, and energy efficiency.
